These are some stunning images from a recent ballet performance at Strovolos Theatre, Nicosia. So much colour, motion, expression, beautiful acting and unique costumes.

A breathtaking performance I loved to photograph and that kept my attention throughout when watching it on the second evening:

Already back in May I had the pleasure to photograph a great theatre performance held at the University of Cyprus. Yesterday this very well known group from Greece  “Morfes Ekfrasis (Forms of expression in English translation) – Μορφές Έκφρασης” presented a wonderful and ever so entertaining performance.

Have a look at these colourful and expressive images; it’s been such fun to be there and photograph:

Theatre Performance

Yesterday’s children theatre performance at the University of Cyprus.

A gripping performance that held the audience’ attention right through to the last minute:

Medieval Times

I have recently spent a most interesting afternoon with Alla, a Russian lady, who is a passionate tailor in her spare time and has created many beautiful gowns in the past.

This time she showed me a dark green medieval dress and I portrait herself wearing it in an extraordinary location in the outskirts of Nicosia, which perfectly fitted this outfit.

Here are some of her own comments about the idea behind this project:

“Designing and making of clothes in middle ages was a craft, even arts. Beautiful and richly embroidered with silk, gold and precious stones, those garments are great examples of patience, artistic talent and skills.

Historical Costume Making is not only a great challenge but a fascinating journey to the past. A chance to find your own unique identity while “stitching through the ages”.

This dress is an attempt to re-construct or rather to re-enact upper class German costumes of the 12th century. The over dress “surcote” is of fine green wool with hand made embroidery of silk, bids, and various semi-precious stones. The under garment “kyrtle” is of silk.

All garments except for surcoat are hand sewed. The head dress braided of silk laces and silver wire then embroidered with stones is a precious crown like circlet.”

Alla

I had the unique opportunity to portrait 10 actresses from the oldest English language amateur dramatics group in Cyprus  on stage during their preparations for the play “The Vagina Monologues”.

A fantastic experience; everyone was so full of energy and they enjoyed performing in a way I have rarely seen before.

Ten women presented the “Vagina Monologues” at the Anoichtou Theatre in Old Nicosia with all their expertise, energy and passion. A truly fantastic play that made the audience laugh, cry and leave speechless at times.

If you couldn’t make the Nicosia performances you can also catch the production at Theatro Ena in Limassol on the 29th, 30th & 31st October 2010 or at Intercollege in Larnaca on the 5th and 6th of November 2010.

All shows start at 8.30pm – free seating so please come early. Ticket booking for Larnaca & Limassol +357 96837281.
